Truck Runs into Pro-Monarchist Iran Protest in Los Angeles

(MENAFN) At least two individuals were hurt in Los Angeles on Sunday when the driver of a moving truck plowed into a gathering of demonstrators backing Iran’s ousted monarch, according to media accounts.

The rally was scheduled for 2 p.m. (2200GMT) outside the Wilshire Federal Building in the Westwood district, where a large crowd had assembled to show solidarity with ongoing protests in Iran, a news agency reported.

Emergency responders treated two people for injuries at the scene, the broadcaster noted.
Video circulating on social media depicted a U-Haul truck carrying a torn banner that read “No shah. No regime. USA: Don’t repeat 1953. No Mullah,” moving into the crowd.

Protesters were seen waving flags from before Iran’s 1979 revolution, which removed then-Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Other placards on the vehicle had been ripped off, and footage showed demonstrators smashing at least one of the truck’s windows.

The reference to 1953 on the sign points to the year when then-Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddegh was overthrown in a coup organized by the United States.
